Matthew has spent the last 15 years in Europe. Working both as a teacher, performer and maker. He has worked with a diverse array of companies such as Random Scream of Belgium, Carol Brown Dances of UK/NZ, Company Willi Dorner, Theater Combinat, and Klaus Obermaier of Austria. Prior to leaving he was a company member of Black Grace but also dancing with Human Garden, Commotion Company, Touch Compass and Blue Vault.
He has been a long term collaborator in one of Norway's major companies Impure. Recently performing in "then love came and set the world on fire" and also "Now the field is open" He also danced in Impure collaborations with Cena 11 of Brazil and with the hip hop crew deepdowndopism. He is a certified teacher of the Axis Syllabus which integrates anatomy and physics into a movement practice and has taught this all around the world. In Norway he has taught at the major dance institutions - Spin Off and Proda, the National Academy of Dance and for Carte Blanche in Bergen. Likewise in Austria he taught at S.E.A.D, Tanz Quartier, Impuls Tanz Festival and the Dance Conservatorium of Vienna. He also co-taught “Axis vs Rolfing” with Michael Kellenburger. “The Democratic Body” with Eroca Nicols and “The Body Nerd Lab” with Kira Kirsch.He has been a guest teacher throughout Europe but has taught also in Israel/Palestine, Ukraine, Canada, U.S, Benin -West Africa and most recently in Russia. Choreography has not been his main focus however he has made a number of works. Recently he created a solo “Role-ing” for Benedikte Onarheim as well as a duet “this piece won’t change the world” as part of En Kveld in Oslo. He is currently working on a duet with Eroca Nicols. He premiered his first evening length in 2011 with the work "Spin" in Zagreb, Croatia for Studio Dance company. He also created a 40min work for the students of SEAD, "Observing Observing” in 2008. He is a certified teacher of Pilates having taught at P.A.R.T.S in Belgium and at the Pilates Academy in Vienna and is now again teaching at Body Studio in Auckland. He is half way through his Osteopathic Studies. |
