range of levels and abilities ballet and contemporary dance technique,
including company classes for Footnote, Raising the Barre and at Tarrant Dance
Studio in Wellington as well as for various summer schools and holiday
programmes. Sarah is currently completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Creative
and Performing Arts (Dance Studies) at the University of Auckland.
Class Description Sarah approaches her ballet classes from a perspective that aims to make classical ballet technique useful for dancers to employ within other dance styles. She draws on imagery and opposition forces in the body to aid technique and encourages dancers to experiment with their contemporary techniques and how they may cross over into classical technique and vice versa. Sarah aims to develop movement vocabulary and technical themes for each class for example weight transfer, lower leg alignment and articulation, rotation of and within the body, and always including a particular focus on balance. Barre work is followed by centre work including adage, centre practice, turns and allegro. Sarah’s classes are suitable for beginners through to more advanced dancers. |
